Why Choose Royal Canin Maxi Starter?
Large breed mothers and puppies have specific nutritional requirements that differ from medium and small breeds. This formula is precisely calibrated to support healthy milk production and healthy early puppy development in large breeds.
Tip
Soften with warm water for weaning pups. Transition to Royal Canin Maxi Puppy at 2 months of age.
How we work out the portion
A pet's daily energy need starts from its resting requirement — 70 multiplied by body weight in kilograms to the power of 0.75 — then multiplied by a factor for species, life stage and activity. The calculator above uses 1.4 to 2.2 for adult dogs and 1.0 to 1.4 for adult cats.
The gram figure then depends on how many calories are in a kilogram of the food. That varies by formula, so we use a sensible default and show it openly rather than hiding it. If the bag states its own kcal/kg, use that number instead.
Choosing a pack size
The price-per-kilo figure next to every size is the honest comparison — a bigger bag is only better value if the maths says so, and on a handful of lines it currently does not. Buy the size your pet will finish within about six weeks of opening, so the food stays fresh.
